Look no further than Wayback Burger!
Way back a long time, life seemed a bit less busy, simple and kind. “Remember when’s” are always so fun to stop and reflect on. Remember way back when you could buy a little candy from the grocery store for a dime or even a nickel? (Ps…I recently went to the local grocery store in Golva, ND. They have those cute, yummy gummy candies and suckers for just a handful of cents!).
Remember when you’d work hard all day long only to come home to your mother’s delicious HOMEMADE cookies that somehow made you forget just how long the day was? (Anyone know why all my examples involve food? Good grief.)
Remember way back when you loved the snow as it meant snowmen, fox and hound (if you know this game, we are likely long lost best friends), and hot chocolate? Now it means chilled to the bone toes and fingers, snow shovels, and sore shoulders from the stress of driving in a SD winter storm. (Side note…if you’re looking to move to SD, you may want to look into getting a 4 wheel drive vehicle.)
And Now for the Modern Day Wayback
Nostalgia. It’s a beautiful thing. And one of the cutest, absolutely delicious restaurants in Newcastle, WY, captures this very thing. Wayback Burger. The ultimate burger destination as far as I can tell. Here’s what they have to say about themselves that seems to really express what captured me, “Wayback symbolizes the inner “rebel,” who might not eat their veggies, but holds the door for grandma EVERY TIME.” Their website continues on to say, “It feels revived – young and fresh with a nod to how things were “back in the day” but with a twist.” Doesn’t just reading this make you want to go and eat there? I can be there in an hour. Save me a seat.
I’m telling you, Wayback Burger in Wyoming is consistently delicious. You can go in knowing what you can expect. (And they won’t disappoint!) Side note: There have been a few times we have had to wait more than I would’ve assumed. BUT IT IS WORTH THE WAIT! Generally, however, in my experience, you will wait longer than your average fast food restaurant. This is nothing negative, I just want you to know what your visit might look like.
The Menu
Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, let’s talk the menu! My absolute, hands down favorite is the CHEEEESY. (Wayback recommends you pronounce all four “e’s”.) Friend, I kid you not. IT IS AMAZING! SO cheeeesy, and the perfect ratios of melted American cheese on two MADE TO ORDER beef patties. Lastly, the part that levels this burger up above most burgers, the inverted BUTTERED and grilled bun. I couldn’t figure out how they made the bun so amazing. Hence, one day I asked them how they made it so good. This was the day I learned it is simply a bun flipped over. GENIUS! (And yet at home, it still isn’t as good.) See, this is what I mean. They take comfort foods and add their own twist. Viola~PERFECTION!
Wayback Burger Sides
Next, let’s talk sides. Sure, this website is actually to introduce ourselves to one another so you know where to turn when you’re ready to buy land for sale in Newcastle, WY, but we wouldn’t be doing our job not to mention Wayback Burger in Wyoming. A legit reason in and of itself to move to the area.
Now, back to the sides: Mac and Cheese Bites
Okay, okay, so you’ve heard of these. What’s the big deal. Well…these ARE A BIG DEAL! Take the yummiest ones you’ve ever eaten and imagine it being 2x better. Now you’re following.
House Made Chips
I don’t even like chips that much. However, I actually consider ordering them as my side. They are that delicious! And who doesn’t love the word’s “house made” when eating at a burger joint?
Bacon Cheese Fries (That’s cheese with just two “e’s” btw.)
The real reason I don’t order the chips (I never said anything about not eating any of my dining partner’s chips. Just sayin’.) is because of the Bacon Cheese Fries. Wayback Burger does them right. None of this, here are your fries with 8 bacon bits and a small showering of half melted cheese. Nope. Not here. Chives, plentiful bacon, lot’s of cheese. AND RANCH to dip! You’ve got to have the ranch.
Lastly on the menu, and I cannot believe I’m about to admit this. After all I come from a long line of ranchers. And don’t get me wrong I love beef! But I cannot fail to mention how good their hot dogs are. Gasp! Yes, even their hot dogs are amazing. You get to pick what you want on them, and it comes out split in half perfectly cooked. If you are craving a hot dog and live in New Castle, Wyoming, don’t overthink this. Grab your jacket, and head to Wayback Burger.
It Only Makes Sense to Go
Here’s the thing. We actually live about an hour away from the closest Wayback Burger. And just from writing this, my taste buds are watering. I’m wondering how I can come up with a reason to need to go to Newcastle, WY, simply to eat at Wayback Burger. You know, I could remind Mark how delicious the milkshakes are. Plus it’s been a while since we’ve been on a date. Or I could convince Mark that we should go check on one of the properties for sale in Sundance, Wyoming, and we would be going right past Wayback Burger. Therefore, naturally we need to plan this around lunch or supper time. Maybe both!
In the meantime, and in conclusion, I’m telling you, it is hard to beat Wayback Burger when you just want some comfort food amped up a bit. There are several good reasons to make Newcastle, Wyoming, your home, and this is definitely one that needs added to the list!
